LOUSTIC: Laboratoire d’observation des usages des technologies de l’information et de communication [Observation Laboratory on the uses of information and communication technology]

LOUSTIC is a platform for multidisciplinary research on the uses of information and communication technology. This “living lab’s” combination of disciplines that stem from engineering sciences (information technology, domotics) and human and social sciences (sociology, psychology and ergonomics, economics, marketing, educational sciences and legal studies) allows all aspects of use to be addressed, which include: technical feasibility, personal and social acceptability, social utility, feasibility or, economic viability, and legal acceptability. LOUSTIC’s aim is to switch the focus back to the user in the design of innovative products, especially through the use of methodologies such as surveys, interviews or use tests via a platform equipped for the observation of uses. LOUSTIC supports both fundamental research (developing conceptual models) and applied research (designing products, improving interfaces etc.). It also approves research projects and offers scientific services to companies. LOUSTIC is a member of the M@rsouin network for social and human sciences, and the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme en Bretagne (the Human Sciences Institute in Brittany). LOUSTIC contributes its own equipment and skills to the wider M@rsouin network.
